Co-Operative Education

Among some of the benefits of becoming a co-op student, you’ll foster relationships with people working in your industry of choice, be able to employ the skills you learned in the classroom, bolster your resume, and have access to career opportunities only available to co-op students – all while also earning money.

Co-operative Education Course Outline

Co-op employment terms typically begin in January, May, or September, and last 4-8 months. The process is as follows:

  • Once accepted into the program, you’ll complete the required training and then be able to access the co-op job postings. You’ll start looking for a position the semester before you want to begin work.
  • Begin applying for positions. The co-op office will submit your application to the potential employer for review.
  • Potential employers will begin arranging interview times with selected candidates. The co-op office will help facilitate arranging an interview time. The interview location will either be on campus, at the place of potential employment, or over the phone or video conferencing for candidates who are not local.
  • When the potential employer makes a decision, the co-op office will advise the student of the offer and all parties will agree to the offer terms.
  • While you are working, the co-op office will visit the site. The employer will evaluate your performance and progress, and you will also be given the chance to provide feedback.
  • At the end of the employment term, the employer will submit a written evaluation of your performance. You will be required to submit your own report reflecting on your work experience.
