College Readiness
College Readiness exists for students who did not complete high school or need to brush up on their high school level academia before continuing on to post-secondary level courses or programs. Students in this program will hone or develop skills in science, math, studying, writing, and reading at required provincial levels.
The College Readiness program helps students focus on learning effective study skills for the academic development through various instructional methods. Students will receive regular feedback regarding their progress, with all necessary guidance for success along the way. Instructors are also able to provide individual help and support where required. The main goal of the College Readiness program is enabling learners to achieve their own learning potential and to know how to utilize support when they need it.
This is a very popular program and as such, courses fill up very quickly. If you are interested in the College Readiness program, it’s best to register quickly!
Requirements For Acceptance
All students are subject to general admission requirements. All applicants to the College Readiness program will have skill assessments in math, writing, and reading. If required, applicants may meet with an academic planner to best determine which courses may apply. All student applicants will need to complete skill assessments and registration before the first day of classes.
All courses in the College Readiness program are free. However, students may be required to pay the student activity fees and any lab fees for applicable computer and science courses (see Fee Schedule). Students who require financial assistance for course-required books or other related expenses may apply to the Adult Basic Education Student Assistance Program (ABESAP). You can speak with an academic or financial planner for more information on this program. As well, there are a number of government and social agencies who have sponsorship programs or can otherwise help students.
The College Readiness program courses can be used to help an adult student obtain a BC Adult Graduation Diploma, which is the equivalent of a High School Diploma. For eligibility requirements and more information, please refer to the BC Adult Graduation Diploma information website at www.bced.gov.bc.ca or speak with your department head.
College Readiness courses are provincially articulated and are able to be transferred to other BC post-secondary colleges and institutes.
